Winter in Michigan means long days spent indoors, and for a mama, that often means noticing every little thing—chipped paint, empty walls waiting for frames, missing light fixtures, and a dining table that’s seen better days. It’s the season when the urge to refresh, redecorate, and breathe new life into our spaces kicks in. But whether it’s winter or not, it’s easy for our hearts to shift from gratitude for our homes to frustration with all the things we want to change. I’ve been there Mama, I actually am in that current state as I am typing this. That is why, by God’s grace and guidance, I had a heart prompt to create a devotion for my home that would cultivate a heart change, and cultivate a heart for more Thanksgiving for my home. Here is Home: A 31-Day Prayer & Gratitude Journal for Your Heart & Home.
How Can Home: A 31-Day Prayer & Gratitude Journal for Your Heart & Home help cultivate a heart change?
Have you noticed that once you see your home negatively, it’s all you think or talk about? When someone compliments it, you downplay it: “Yeah, it’s getting there, but there’s still so much to do.” The more we focus on imperfections or unfinished projects, the easier frustration takes root, replacing gratitude with discontent.
But what if we chose to cultivate love for our home, even in the midst of all imperfections? Imagine shifting your response to something like: “Thank you! We feel so blessed to have such a warm and welcoming place to live.” A simple change in perspective can transform not just our words, but our hearts.
That’s the heart behind Home: A 31-Day Prayer & Gratitude Journal for Your Heart & Home. It transforms feelings of frustration or discontent into a deep sense of gratitude and peace. More than that, it invites you to recognize your home as a gift from our Heavenly Father—one to cherish, not just for its structure or decor, but for the life and purpose it holds.
Our homes are more than walls that need painting or furniture that needs refreshing. They are the starting place of our mission field, where we serve, love, and grow in faith. They’re where we create a space for intentional time with the Lord, meeting with Him daily in the ordinary moments.
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” — Proverbs 24:3-4
My prayer is that this journal becomes a daily devotional that helps cultivate a heart of thanksgiving. I pray that it reminds you that the home God has given you is already a place of beauty, purpose, and blessing.
What’s Inside the Home: A 31-Day Prayer & Gratitude Journal For Your Heart & Home.

It is a prayer that this journal carries a meaningful rhythm. Each day begins with a scripture passage for reflection, followed by guided prompts to deepen your gratitude and faith. You’ll be encouraged to read the scripture, meditate on God’s Word, journal your thoughts, acknowledge the blessings in your home, and record answered prayers. I always recommend diving deeper into scripture to fully grasp God’s truth—so take the time to look up the passage and read the entire chapter for complete context.
Each entry also includes space for intentional prayer over your home, helping you cultivate a heart of peace, contentment, and appreciation for the sacred space God has given you. It’s perfectly fine to list things you wish to see done in your home, but the hope is that God will transform your vision—letting you recognize how lovely your home already is and cherish the blessings you already have.
Final Thoughts:
Dreaming about styling and decorating your home isn’t a bad thing—in fact, I love creating dream boards for paint colors, wallpapers, and decor! I’m actually working on a guide to help you make your own home board using Canva. While these are fun and exciting things to think about, it’s important to remember that our homes are a blessing, not idols. Cultivating a heart of gratitude for the space you have will help keep your focus on what truly matters.
Lastly, journal is not a substitute for God’s Word—only His Word can truly transform hearts. Instead, I pray that it serves as a tool to complement your devotion, helping you cultivate gratitude for your home. Though designed as a 31-day journey, my hope is that you revisit it whenever you need a reminder of the blessings within your home.
