Personal Thoughts About Grumpy Monkey
As a Christian mama who values teaching my little ones about big emotions—and how those emotions are valid but shouldn’t consume us—I approached Grumpy Monkey with a bit of hesitation. I wondered if the story might unintentionally glorify being grumpy and mopey instead of encouraging little hearts to overcome those feelings and honor the Lord with their attitudes.
While it can sometimes feel like the book leans into the grumpiness, by the end, you’ll see that Grumpy Monkey learns an important lesson about self-regulation. When paired with biblical discussions about handling emotions and showing love to others, this story can actually open up meaningful conversations. It’s also a wonderfully silly and enjoyable book that keeps little ones engaged while giving you opportunities to guide their hearts.
***I haven’t had the chance to read any of the other Grumpy Monkey books yet, so I can’t speak to those.
